Taitung
Taitung, located on Taiwan’s southeastern coast, is a peaceful and scenic region known for its indigenous culture, dramatic landscapes, and laid-back charm. Far from the bustling cities, it offers a deeper connection to nature and tradition, making it a favorite destination for travelers seeking authenticity and serenity.
01
Zhiben(知本)
A visit to Taitung often begins in Zhiben, the region’s most famous hot spring area. Nestled in a lush valley, Zhiben is known for its mineral-rich waters that are perfect for relaxation and healing. The area features both public bathhouses and luxurious resorts, all surrounded by tropical greenery and birdsong—a true natural spa retreat.

02
Sanxiantai(三仙台)
One of Taitung’s most iconic coastal landmarks is Sanxiantai, known for its distinctive arched footbridge that connects the shore to a small offshore island. The name means "Terrace of the Three Immortals," inspired by local legends. Visitors come here for dramatic sunrises, stunning ocean views, and a walk across the bridge with waves crashing below.
03
Baxian Caves(八仙洞)
Further up the coast, the mysterious Baxian Caves are carved into a seaside cliff and have been used by humans since prehistoric times. These natural limestone caves contain archaeological remains and are linked to legends about the Eight Immortals. The view from the caves overlooking the Pacific Ocean is just as breathtaking as their historical significance.

04
Indigenous Flying Fish Cuisine(原住民飛魚料理)
Taitung is home to many indigenous communities, each with its own rich culinary traditions. Among the most celebrated is indigenous flying fish cuisine, especially from the Tao people of Orchid Island. These seasonal delicacies are often grilled or sun-dried, and reflect the deep relationship between local tribes and the ocean.
05
Duoliang Station(多良車站)
Often dubbed the “most beautiful train station in Taiwan,” Duoliang Station is no longer in operation but remains a popular viewpoint. Located on a hill above the coastline, the station platform overlooks the railway tracks with the vast Pacific Ocean as a backdrop. It’s a perfect photo spot, especially when a train passes by against the sea breeze.

06
Luye Highland(鹿野高台)
Inland, Luye Highland offers sweeping views of green valleys and is famous for its paragliding activities. Each summer, the area hosts the Taitung Hot Air Balloon Festival, attracting crowds who come to watch colorful balloons float above the mountains. Even without events, the peaceful landscape is ideal for picnics and scenic walks.
07
Chulu Ranch(初鹿牧場)
For a taste of rural life, Chulu Ranch(初鹿牧場) is a family-friendly spot known for its wide open spaces and fresh dairy products. Visitors can see grazing cows, feed animals, and enjoy handmade ice cream and milk. Surrounded by rolling hills, it's a relaxing stop that showcases Taitung’s pastoral charm.
08
Custard Apple(釋迦)
Taitung is also the proud home of Taiwan’s best custard apples, known for their sweet, creamy flesh and distinctive scaly skin. Often called “Buddha’s Head Fruit” due to their shape, these fruits are harvested in late summer and are a must-try for fruit lovers. Many visitors take them home as edible souvenirs of Taitung’s rich soil and sunshine.

From the soothing waters of Zhiben to the windswept cliffs of Sanxiantai and the flavors of flying fish cuisine, Taitung offers a journey full of nature, culture, and authenticity. It’s a place where the ocean meets the mountains and time seems to gently slow down.
